Service Description

From the Miners Standard hub the tour descends into Winster to discover more of this historic lead mining and market town. The route then passes the church taking a rarely used, narrow back lane out to Birchover. The road continues to rise through and beyond Birchover to just before Stanton Moor where a lovely birch-lined road (closed to traffic as a result of a landslip) takes you down to Stanton Lees and then over Darley Bridge. At Darley Dale the A6 is crossed and the route then zig zags up to the top of Darley Moor near Sydnope Hill. A short detour here will allow you take a well deserved respite amongst the idyllic woodlands of Darwin Forest and the Foresters Bar. The route when rejoined continues along narrow wooded lanes before starting its long descent down into Rowsley for a bit of 'retail therapy' cycling through the Peak Village shopping centre and then a short walk through the Grouse and Claret car park and over the Derwent. A slow gradual rise along minor roads takes you to the northern edge of Stanton Moor and through the Stanton Estate past the Flying Childers. Another descent to cross the Bakewell Road allows you to join a beautiful back road to pass by Harthill Hall. Wonderful open views look down over Youlgreave with the route following a ridge passing the Grey Ladies stone circle to the back of Robin Hoods Stride before reaching the small mining village of Elton. Then it is just a short return to Winster and your journey is complete.
