Service Description

The Chatsworth House tour commences from our Winster hub. It explores the market and lead mining village of Winster before a back lane takes the trail up to neighbouring Birchover. From here a lane closed to motor vehicles descends below Stanton Moor and out towards Rowsley. Lovely wooded trails and bridleways then pass high above the Haddon Estate and through gated farmland until the Monsal Trail is joined. The trail is exited at the old Bakewell Station and then a steep but quiet tarmac road passes up beyond the golf course. It is then down country lanes and estate roads and tracks into the Chatsworth Village of Edensor. It is only a short cycle through the Parkland to reach the house. At Chatsworth you have 2 /3 hours to enjoy the house or the gardens. (2/3 hours is probably not enough time to enjoy both). Chatsworth House is the most popular tourist attraction in the Peak District and you can visit more than 25 rooms that display art and artefacts that span 4,000 years. This includes the Painted Hall, State Rooms and Sculpture Gallery where you can discover the history of the Devonshire family. There are many different refreshment and food options at the House and Gardens You can also explore the 105-acre Chatsworth Gardens which are the result of nearly 500 years of careful cultivation and includes an arboretum, rock garden, fountains, sculptures and modern waterworks, – the historic garden has something for everyone. There are many café and souvenir opportunities before the return tour takes you through the heart of the Estate passing Beeley and back to Rowsley. It is then a climb to Stanton in Peak affording wonderful views of the valley below. Quiet lanes then sweep down to Harthill and a wonderful back lane to Elton and Winster passing neolithic stone circles and rocky outcrops.
