eBike Tour and Distillery Visit
A full day out combining a tour through the Derwent Valley with a visit to the White Peak Distillery
Service Description
Your morning tour crosses both sides of the Derwent Valley and Cromford Canal. You will follow the canal towpath from our Ambergate hub leaving it at Whatstandwell to climb to Crich and then onto Plaistow Green before turning west to Dethick. The route then falls steeply down into Lea Bridge where just beyond it rejoins the canal to Cromford. The return journey crosses the A6 Derby Road to travel west climbing trails and minor roads high onto Alderwasley Moor. Minor farm lanes and a steep ancient track (where more careful technical riding may be required) brings you back into Ambergate on the opposite side of the Derwent River. You will then have a chance to freshen up and grab a bite to eat at the Filling Station Cafe before moving onto your distillery tour at the White Peak Distillery at 2pm. You will experience the unique atmosphere, heat and smells of a working distillery which is on the same site as the Great British Car Journey. You will tour the Victorian still house, home to two beautiful hand-made copper pot stills, see maturing new make whisky and be guided through the production process by one of the distillers. You will also get to see ‘Betty’ a 600 litre spirits still, used to make the award winning 'Shining Cliff' gin and rum. Finally you will get to take a seat in the tasting room for a guided tasting of a range of craft spirits and a chance for further discussion and an opportunity to browse the shop and take your favourites home!
