Service Description

This classic route starts at our Ambergate hub. It follows a short section of the Derwent Valley Heritage Way climbing out to Belper Lane End before reaching the top of Alderwasley Moor allowing magnificent 360 degree views. Lovely quiet lanes take the tour through Shottle and out towards the village of Kirk Ireton passing by the community shop (tea and coffee available) and the Barley Mow Pub (a rare traditional local where jugs of beer are still bought up from the cellar). The tour then follows minor roads and tracks to the edge of Carsington Water where cycle tracks follow the western side of the reservoir. The cycle track is left behind at Carsington Village with a climb on minor roads from Hopton Hall to reach the High Peak Trail. The old Cromford and High Peak railway is navigated as it makes its impressive way through Black Rock and rattles down towards the High Peak Junction. From here the route follows a stunning canal side trail following the Derwent Valley Heritage Way back to Ambergate.
