Service Description

This wonderful eBiking experience provides amazing countryside views as well as offering an insight into the varied history of the White Peak. The tour allows glimpses of neolithic and roman-time settlements, medieval history, early mining, the industrial revolution through to present day industry, farming and tourism. Beginning at our Winster hub the tour explores the lead mining and market villages of Winster and Elton which both offer a rich history of lead mining. From the Ore House near the Miners Standard the best preserved in the Peak District. The tour proceeds out to Elton and Youlgreave passing legends of Robin Hood and Neolithic Stone Circles. At Minninglow more neolithic tombs and bronze aged barrows rise above the amazing engineering works of the old Cromford to Buxton railway line. Lovely quiet lanes are then followed out to Parwich a village mentioned in the Doomsday Book 1086 as lands belonging to the king. Adjacent to the Norman church the lovely Sycamore Inn provides a perfect half way stop. A minor road then takes you out to Ballidon which offers access to the wonderful steep sided Ballidon Dale. The Dale itself provides its own glimpse of history with remnants of bronze aged and romono British settlements together with a medieval monastic grange. Farming trails then cross beneath Minninglow Hill and out towards a butterfly quarry which itself is worth a stop if the season is right. The unspoiled hamlet of Aldwark overlooks imposing open quarry works and is home to a delightful rural brewery if you time it right. It is then back to Winster to complete a very memorable, scenic and informative days tour.
